Midway X-country

[non-notification update]
Crawfordsville, Indiana

It's tuesday night at a Holiday Inn and we're about halfway to Ioway.

Yesterday was a bonified bust. After all the packing and taking care of a million little details we finally got out of DC late at about 11am. Then after about 3 hours on the road patti started having "lower plumbing" pains. In fact the pains got serious enough that we had to stop after only 200 miles, find a motel and then find the nearest hospital emergency room. We spent several hours being shuffled around in the hospital... tests.. lots of waiting, staring at the floor and waiting, wondering. Finally the ER doctor told us what was going on and gave us prescriptions and we left. By the time we found a drugstore and somehow managed to find our way back to the motel without getting lost in the dark, it was about 9:30.
We were exhausted and at least glad the problem had been defined, if not as yet remedied. We're still working on the cure today. Patti is feeling tired but better and we are another 500 miles down the road. Another 500 miles tomorrow should get us real close to touchdown at farm...

[wednesday morning update]
Another bad belly night for our Patricia and we got very little sleep. Why is it the nights are always the worst?
We questioned whether to turn around and go back to homeport in DC or to continue on. Our global position could not be worse: 700 miles from home and familiar routine, familiar medical care on the one hand versus a 500 mile drive today to the roughness of the farm and small town medical care. Another thing to consider is if we head back east in a few hours we will surely intersect with the fast moving storms that are south of us but moving northeast.
It's 8:30 AM now, Patti is semi-snoozing with the weather channel playing low. She's feeling a bit better as I write this. We'll decide our next move after she is fully awakens and I will post another update here before we leave. B

10:00 am
Ok, we're about out of here. Continuing to head west. We're getting a late start as usual so may need to motel it again tonight, depending on patti's needs. We'll give Janis and Phyllis a call sometime later today and update them on our ETA.

argh.

7:30 pm still wednesday
All went pretty well through the day of driving.. smallish belly pains for Patricia throughout the day but she was able to nap as we sped along the interstates through Illinois and Iowa. We realized that it would just be too late if we were to try and make it all the way to western Iowa (plus we are both WHIPPED from last night's lack of sleep)so we decided to call it quits for the night. We're currently just north of Des Moines in a Holiday Inn. Tomorrow's journey of a paltry 150 miles will be snap (knock on wood). We shall sleep in since we don't need to vacate our hotel living until noon. I called my sister and my adopted "mom" to update our progress and so I guess all is under control, more or less.
Now for a beer, a garden burger and.. the night ahead of us, when nasty hobgoblins can make themselves known.
